You choose the story. Art & Parcel will source a suitable paperback edition, design the new cover, prepare the materials and rebind it into a handmade hardcover created just for you.

Begin your commission

When ordering, you will be asked to provide:

• Book title and author
• Preferred edition, where relevant
• Preferred colour palette
• Preferred cover material, where available
• Preferred vinyl finish
• Favourite characters, symbols, quotes, patterns or scenes
• Details you would like included or avoided
• Whether you would like sprayed or stencilled edges
• Endpaper preferences, where available
• Inspiration images or mood boards, where helpful

You do not need to arrive with a complete design in mind.

A favourite scene, a meaningful symbol, a colour palette or simply the feeling you want the finished book to carry is enough to begin.

A book designed around your story

Every custom rebind is created around the book you choose and the atmosphere you want the finished volume to hold.

• Removal of the original paperback cover
• Spine preparation and reinforcement
• Construction of a new hardcover case
• Book cloth or faux leather-style covering, where available

• Custom front cover, spine and back cover artwork
• Foil or matte iron-on vinyl application
• Pressing and finishing
• Digital design proof before production

Each volume is transformed from an existing paperback into a handmade hardcover.

Please note: this is a rebinding service, not a restoration service or construction of a book from loose pages.

Optional sprayed or stencilled edges

You may choose to add decorated page edges to your custom rebind.

Available options include:

• Simple sprayed edges
• Stencilled sprayed edges
• Detailed or custom sprayed edges by quote

Sprayed edges are created by hand and may have slight variations. This is part of the handmade nature of the finished book.

The design process

Your commission includes:

1. Review of your submitted brief
2. Development of one custom design direction
3. Digital proof for your review
4. Up to two rounds of minor revisions
5. Preparation of the final cover artwork
6. Rebinding and finishing of your book

Minor revisions may include adjustments to wording, placement, scale, colours or selected design details.

Requests for a completely new design direction after the first proof has been created may require an additional design fee.

Production will not begin until the final design direction has been approved.

A note on handmade books

Each Art & Parcel rebind is made by hand in a small home bindery.

Tiny variations may be present, including slight differences in alignment, cloth tension, corners, vinyl placement, endpaper trimming, page finish or sprayed edges.

These small details are part of the handmade nature of the piece and mean no two volumes will ever be exactly alike.

Your book will not look factory-made. It will look made, handled, transformed and finished one at a time.

Timeframe

This custom rebind is made to order by hand in Australia.

Please allow approximately 4 to 6 weeks for completion before shipping.

Turnaround time may vary depending on book availability, material availability, design complexity and the current commission queue.

If your rebind is intended for a gift or special date, please include this when ordering so Art & Parcel can confirm whether the timeframe is possible before work begins.
