Custom Cover Design + HTV | Pre-Cut
Custom Cover Design + HTV | Pre-Cut
Commission an original cover from the Scriptorium.
Some stories call for a design that cannot be found in any catalogue.
Share the book, atmosphere and details that matter to you, and Art & Parcel will create an original silhouette-style cover design for your rebinding project. Once approved, the artwork will be cut in your chosen iron-on vinyl and posted ready for you to weed, position and apply.
The Scriptorium will take your ideas from scattered symbols and favourite scenes to the final gleaming details upon the cloth.
Please note: this is a custom design and physical pre-cut HTV service. No digital SVG file, rebinding materials, tools, instructions or finished book are included.

Open your commission
When ordering, you will be asked to provide:
- Book title and author
- Finished front cover dimensions
- Finished spine width
- Finished back cover dimensions
- Preferred atmosphere, style or aesthetic
- Important symbols, characters, settings or story elements
- Details you would like included or avoided
- Your preferred vinyl colour
- Inspiration images, where helpful
You do not need to arrive with a complete design in mind.
A favourite scene, a significant symbol, a particular mood or a few scattered ideas are enough to begin the work.
From story to silhouette
Your brief will be transformed into an original cover created specifically for vinyl cutting and application.
Each design is shaped with consideration for:
- The proportions of your finished case
- Balance across the front, spine and back
- Readability at book-cover scale
- Practical cutting and weeding
- The colour and texture of your book cloth
- The visual language of the story
Art & Parcel designs are created in a silhouette-led style that allows the artwork to be cut cleanly in HTV while still carrying the atmosphere and detail of the book.
The design process
Your commission includes:
- One original design direction based on your submitted brief
- A digital proof for your review
- Up to two rounds of minor revisions
- Preparation and cutting of the approved artwork
Minor revisions may include adjustments to placement, scale, wording or individual details.
Requests for an entirely new concept or major change in direction after the first design has been created may require an additional design fee.
The vinyl will not be cut until the final design has been approved.
Within your parcel
Once approved, your parcel will contain:
- Pre-cut iron-on vinyl for the front cover
- Pre-cut iron-on vinyl for the spine
- Pre-cut iron-on vinyl for the back cover
- Practice vinyl and book cloth strips
The HTV will remain on its carrier sheet and will need to be weeded before application.
A digital SVG file is not included with this product. Choose Custom Single Book Cover SVG | Digital Download if you would prefer to receive the design file and cut the vinyl yourself.
Before submitting your measurements
Where possible, measure your completed hardcover case rather than the original paperback cover.
The design and vinyl will be prepared using the dimensions you supply. Art & Parcel cannot guarantee the fit of artwork where measurements are incomplete or incorrect.
Please provide:
- The exact width and height of the front cover
- The exact width and height of the back cover
- The exact spine width
- Any preferred margins from the edge of the case
If your case has not yet been constructed, provide your planned measurements and allow a small margin for handmade variation.
Before the design meets the cloth
Every household iron, heat press, book cloth and vinyl finish can behave differently.
Use the supplied practice strips to test:
- Heat
- Pressure
- Application time
- Cooling and peeling method
Complete this test before applying the final artwork to your finished case.
Fine details and small lettering may require patience to weed. Work slowly with a fine-point metal weeding tool and allow the design to reveal itself piece by piece.
What you will need
To complete your cover, you will need:
- Your finished clothbound book case
- A fine-point metal weeding tool
- A household iron or heat press
- A firm, heat-safe work surface
- Baking paper or another suitable protective sheet, where required
Application settings vary according to your chosen vinyl and equipment. Always begin with the practice materials included in your parcel.
When the commission leaves the Scriptorium
Weed each line, symbol and letter. Arrange the pieces carefully across the cloth. Press them into place and lift away the carrier sheet.
The blank case will disappear beneath a cover created for this story, this project and this particular place in your library.
